Step-by-Step Instructions:
-
Position the Hitch:
- Turn the hitch sideways under the vehicle, carefully raising one end between the muffler and plastic bumper fascia.
- Raise the other end into place, ensuring not to scratch the plastic bumper fascia.
-
Hang Hitch Brackets:
- Position the hitch clearance holes over existing 8mm stud weldnuts located near the rear of the mufflers on both sides of the vehicle.
- Ensure the 3/4” diameter clearance holes sit flat against the vehicle’s sheet metal and do not rest on the weldnuts.
-
Install Rear Fasteners:
- Slide a 7/16” flat washer over an 8mm stud and against the hitch bracket. Secure with an 8mm flanged locknut. Repeat for the other side.
- Tighten the locknuts just enough to hold the hitch in place.
-
Align Forward Hitch Attachment:
- Raise the forward hitch attachment and align it with the existing slot in the suspension crossbeam bracket.
- If necessary, remove two rubber exhaust isolators to access this area.
-
Fill Gaps and Install Forward Fasteners:
- Stack heavy flat washers to fill the gap between the hitch bracket and vehicle bracket.
- Install the 3/8” bolt and ensure it is the correct length to avoid bottoming out against the aluminum transaxle. Use flat washers under the bolt head if needed.
-
Tighten All Fasteners:
- Torque all 3/8”-16 GR5 bolts to 30 Lb.-Ft. (41 N*M).
- Torque all 8mm locknuts to 27 Lb.-Ft. (37 N*M).
-
Reinstall Exhaust:
- Reattach the rubber isolators to the exhaust hangers if removed.
