Tekonsha manufactures a wider range of different products for hooking up trailer lights to your Car Truck or SUV. Our connectors work great with boat trailer wiring and utility trailer wiring. Typically those trailers will use the standard 4 flat plug which is what our Wiring Kits offer. If you have an RV Fifth Wheel or any other large type of trailer you will us a 7 pin trailer plug to control your electric trailer brakes. Tekonsha offers 7 pin trailer connector as well. Simply do a search above to see if there is a 7 wire trailer wiring available for hooking up your 7 way. If there is not you can use part number 85343 trailer wiring adapter to convert any 4-Flat into a 7-Way. • Thanks for your question Wiring harnesses that are plug-and-play and vehicle-specific come with instructions tailored for the vehicle they are designed to fit. The manufacturer produces around 500 trailer hitch applications but only 300 wiring kit applications, based on sales and popularity. Trailer hitches are in high demand for your vehicle, which is why they make a custom hitch. However, wiring is not ordered by everyone since many Tesla owners, for example, use the hitch primarily for a bike rack. In short, if there is not much demand for trailer wiring for a specific vehicle, the manufacturer opts not to build a custom harness. Instead, they have owners of these vehicles hardwire a universal module, which is the wiring without matching connectors at the ends. There are several universal modules, but the one recommended for your vehicle is part 119148. Your Tesla is a 3-Wire system, so you would follow the instructions for 3-Wire systems. The yellow wire is not used unless you're towing a boat with surge brakes. The only Tesla that has a plug-and-play harness is the Model S. If you are concerned about hardwiring, you can opt for the fancier harness, part 119251, available here: [TEKONSHA ZERO CONTACT TRAILER WIRING KIT](https://www.trailerjacks.com/Tekonsha-ZCI-Zero-Contact-Interface-Universal-ModuLite-and-Installation-Kit-119251) This harness is similar but features Tekonsha ZERO contact technology, using magnets to connect to your taillight wires instead of splicing. It costs $90 more, and the choice is a matter of preference. At our shop, we always hardwire, but some customers with luxury vehicles or imports prefer to use the zero-contact option. Many people on Tesla forums choose the Zero Contact, but hardwiring is also common. I hope this information helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
