Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Locate the Vehicle’s Electric Junction Box

1. Locate the vehicle’s black Electric Junction Box:
   • Inside the vehicle, underneath the dashboard, to the left of the steering column, just above the carpet.
2. Remove the junction box cover to expose the connection points.
3. Find the electric trailer brake connection point:
   • Located in the top row, second slot from the left.

Step 2: Plug in the Brake Control Adapter

1. Plug the brake control adapter into the mating connection point in the Electric Junction Box.
2. Use a circuit tester to verify that the adapter has battery (+) power supplied.

Step 3: Install Additional Wiring if Power Is Not Supplied

If power is not present at the Electric Junction Box, follow these steps:

A. Vehicle Brake Control Feed Wire (Blue):

1. Open the vehicle’s hood and locate the black Electrical Center Box on the driver’s side.
2. Remove the lid and cover of the Electrical Center Box.
3. Locate the blue brake control feed wire. This may require temporarily removing the vehicle’s support brace.

B. Vehicle Battery (+) Power Supply Wire (Red):

1. In the same location, find the red battery (+) power supply wire.
2. Attach and route the power wire as specified in the brake control manufacturer’s instructions.
3. Install an in-line fuse or circuit breaker to protect the circuit.

Step 4: Connect the Brake Controller

1. Plug the brake control adapter into the vehicle’s electric brake control harness connector.
2. Follow the brake control manufacturer’s installation instructions for wiring, mounting, and securing the brake controller.

Warnings:

1. Circuit Overload:
   • Do NOT exceed the lower of:
     • Manufacturer’s towing rating, or
     • Maximum Capacity: 4 axles / 8 brakes (24 amps).
2. Overloading circuits may cause fires or electrical damage.
3. Always follow the vehicle owner’s manual and brake control installation instructions.

Wiring Overview:

• Brake Control Feed (Blue): Sends brake signal to trailer brakes.
• Battery Power Supply (Red): Provides fused power to the brake controller.
• Ground: Grounds the controller to the vehicle.
• Stop Lamp Switch (Input): Signals braking input to the brake controller.

Final Notes:

• Verify all connections are secure and wires are properly routed away from sharp edges or heat sources.
• Use a circuit tester or connect a trailer to confirm proper operation.
• Periodically inspect the wiring system for damage or loose connections.

Mounting Instructions:

1. Select a Suitable Mounting Location:

   • Must be securely mounted to a solid surface.
   • Must be within easy reach of the driver.
   • Ensure the area behind the mounting location is clear before drilling.

2. Mark the Hole Locations:

   • Hold the mounting bracket in place.
   • Mark the holes using the slots in the bracket as a template.

3. Drill Mounting Holes:

   • Use a 1/8" drill bit to drill holes at the marked locations.

4. Secure the Bracket:

   • Use two self-tapping screws to secure the bracket.
   • Avoid over-tightening to prevent stripping the holes.

5. Mount the Brake Control Unit:

   • Secure the unit to the bracket using the remaining two screws.

Wiring Instructions:

1. Connect the Wires:

   • Black Wire: Vehicle Power (12V positive battery connection, use a 30A circuit breaker).
   • White Wire: Vehicle Ground (secure to a clean, bare metal surface).
   • Red Wire: Stop Light Switch (connect to the wire that activates only when the brake pedal is pressed).
   • Blue Wire: Trailer Brakes (connect to the brake wire at the trailer connector).

2. Verify Wiring Connections:

   • Use a circuit tester to confirm correct connections.

Controls and Operation:

1. Output (Gain) Control:

   • Adjusts the maximum power delivered to the trailer brakes.
   • Use the +/- buttons to increase or decrease output.
   • Display shows values from 0 to 10 (0 = minimum power, 10 = maximum power).

2. Manual Control:

   • Located on the front of the brake control unit.
   • Slide the control to manually apply the trailer brakes.
   • Use this feature to check or adjust brake performance.

3. Boost Control:

   • Provides more aggressive trailer braking.
   • Boost levels: b.1, b.2, and b.3.
   • Increase or decrease the boost by pressing the Boost Control button.

Setting Power to the Trailer Brakes:

1. Connect the trailer to the tow vehicle.
2. With the engine running, set the Output/Gain to approximately 5.0.
3. Drive at 25 mph on a dry, level surface.
4. Apply the Manual Control fully:
   • If trailer brakes lock up, decrease power.
   • If braking is insufficient, increase power.
5. Repeat until braking is smooth and effective, just below wheel lock-up.

Troubleshooting Guide:
