Installation Instructions for Electric Trailer Brake Control Wiring Adapter
Part Number: 302100
Tools Required:
- None
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Locate the Vehicle’s Electric Brake Control Harness
- Locate the electric brake control harness connector under the dashboard:
- Positioned to the left of the steering column, near the emergency brake pedal.
- The connector is taped to another harness and will match the 4-pin connector on the adapter.
Step 2: Connect the Adapter
- Plug the brake control adapter into the vehicle electric controller connector.
- Use butt connectors (not provided) to attach the adapter’s wires to the corresponding wires on the electric brake controller.
- Refer to the brake controller manufacturer’s instructions for proper wiring and mounting procedures.
Step 3: Finalize Installation and Testing
- Complete the installation by mounting the brake controller securely as directed by the manufacturer.
- Perform all test procedures recommended in the brake controller instructions to ensure proper operation.
Important Notes:
- If the vehicle is not equipped with an OEM trailer tow package, additional fuses and relays may be required to complete the output and battery feed circuits.
- These items are sold separately. Refer to the vehicle’s owner’s manual for fuse and relay locations.
Safety Warnings:
- Do NOT overload the circuit:
- Maximum Capacity: 4 axles / 8 brakes (24 amps).
- Exceeding this rating may cause fires or damage to the vehicle’s electrical system.
- Always follow the vehicle manufacturer’s towing capacity guidelines.
- Read the vehicle’s owner’s manual and the brake control manufacturer’s instructions for additional safety and installation details.
Wiring Overview:
- Stop Lamp Switch to Brake Controller (Input): Provides braking signal from the vehicle to the brake controller.
- Battery Feed (Fused): Supplies power to the trailer brake controller.
- Trailer Brake Controller Output: Sends braking signal to the trailer brakes.
- Ground: Ensures proper grounding connection.
Final Notes:
- Periodically inspect all wiring and connections to ensure they remain secure and free from corrosion.
- Ensure wires are routed away from sharp edges, heat sources, or moving parts that could cause damage.
