Step-by-Step Process:
Step 1: Disconnect the Battery
- Locate the vehicle battery on the driver side under the hood.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal and secure it away from the battery.
Step 2: Prepare the Trunk Area
- Open the trunk and remove all trunk floor coverings and storage trays.
Step 3: Remove the Rear Scuff Panel
- Pull out on the bottom of the scuff panel and then lift upward to remove it.
- Take care not to damage the alignment tabs on the back.
Step 4: Access Driver-Side Felt Liner
- Remove the fasteners securing the driver-side felt liner in place.
- Pull back on the liner to locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors.
Step 5: Remove the Driver-Side Taillight
- Outside the vehicle, remove the cover on the taillight assembly to access the fasteners.
- Remove the two screws securing the taillight and gently pull the taillight straight back.
Step 6: Disconnect Driver-Side Wiring Connectors
- Locate the taillight wiring harness connectors behind the taillight.
- Disconnect the connectors without damaging the locking tabs.
Step 7: Prepare the Grommet
- Remove the grommet behind the taillight where the wiring passes through from the cabin to the taillight.
- Cut a slit in the grommet large enough to route the custom wiring harness.
Step 8: Connect the Wiring Harness on Driver Side
- Route the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire through the grommet opening and slit.
- Insert the yellow wire connectors between the separated 2-pin connectors, and the red wire between the 3-pin connectors.
- Ensure all connectors are securely locked in place.
Step 9: Reseal the Grommet
- Reseat the grommet and use sealant (not provided) to seal the slit and around the wires.
Step 10: Ground the White Wire
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with a nut on the vehicle frame.
- If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole.
- Clean the grounding area of rust, dirt, or paint, and attach the white ground wire using the provided ring terminal and screw.
Step 11: Mount the Converter Box
- Find a flat, clean surface inside the vehicle near the taillight.
- Adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
Step 12: Connect the Wiring Harness on Passenger Side
- Route the green wire of the custom wiring harness to the passenger side behind the scuff panel.
- Repeat Steps 4-9 on the passenger side using the green wire.
Step 13: Route the Power Wire
- Route the black power wire from the vehicle battery as shown in the included instructions.
Step 14: Secure the 4-Flat Connector
- When in use, route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle.
- When not in use, roll it up and store it in a convenient location.
- Secure loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Step 15: Reassemble and Test
- Reinstall all items removed during installation and reconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to protect against corrosion.
Safety Notes:
- Ensure the battery connection is fuse-protected (10-amp max).
- Do not exceed the product rating or the vehicle lamp load rating.
- Verify proper function using a test light or a properly wired trailer.
