Installation Instructions for Tongue Jacks
Tools Required:
- Ratchet
- Socket set
- Torque wrench
Step-by-Step Instructions:
General Installation Notes:
- Confirm no interference from the tow vehicle, tongue, ground, or mounted accessories while stationary or in motion.
- Check for interference in all positions, including handle swing and swivel positions, before and after installation.
- Ensure all components are installed securely and as per the instructions.
Bolt-On Rack Jack Installation:
- Place the gear housing on the tongue and insert the supplied bolts into the holes corresponding to the tongue width.
- Position the mounting bracket below the tongue with the flat surface against it.
- Secure with locknuts and torque to 25 ft-lbs.
Bolt-On Mounting Bracket Instructions:
- Ensure the correct mounting hole pattern for your tongue size.
- Place the jack against the tongue and position the mounting straps on the opposite side of the tongue.
- Insert four bolts through the mounting bracket and straps. The upper bolts should rest on the tongue top, and the lower bolts should be less than 1/16” from the bottom.
- Secure with locknuts and torque to 25 ft-lbs.
- Verify clearance for handle, trailer light cables, and coupler.
Snap Ring/Bolt-Through Instructions:
- Snap Ring Models:
- Place the jack bracket over the mount and fully seat the snap ring into the groove.
- Bolt-Through Models:
- Insert the jack bracket into the recessed opening on the mount.
- Place the small end of the bushing into the jack bracket and onto the bolt.
- Tighten the locknut until there is minimal movement in the bushing.
A-Plate Mounting Instructions (Bolt-On or Weld-On):
- Welding must be performed by an AWS-certified welder.
- Align the jack and foot (if equipped) with the coupler before welding using a 3/16” fillet weld.
- For Bolt-On Applications:
- Use three 3/8"-16 grade-5 bolts and washers.
- Torque bolts to 15-20 ft-lbs.
- Weld the recommended support plate to the bottom of the trailer frame using a 3/16” fillet weld.
Direct-Mount Instructions:
- Place the jack at the desired location and weld 1” at two points on each side using a 3/16” fillet weld.
Maintenance:
- Side-Wind Models:
- Lubricate internal gearing and bushings with automotive grease.
- Apply light oil to the handle unit on both sides of the tube.
- Top-Wind Models:
- Apply light oil to the screw stem.
- If used in a marine environment:
- Flush the jack assembly and bushings with fresh water.
- Apply fresh lubricant to all moving parts.
Safety Notes:
- Fully retract and rotate the jack before towing.
- Never exceed the rated capacity of the jack, footplate, or caster wheel.
- Avoid applying side forces, as they may cause jack failure.
- Ensure locking mechanisms are properly engaged.
- Replace worn or damaged parts before use.
- Do not attempt to adjust the drop foot or leg while the jack is under load.
