Step-by-Step Instructions:
-
Lower Exhaust System:
- Remove the muffler metal tangs from the rubber exhaust hangers at the rear of the vehicle.
- Loosen the strap bolts holding the exhaust together in front of the mufflers on both sides.
- Rotate the mufflers downward for access to the round holes in the frame bottom.
-
Fishwire Carriage Bolts and Blocks:
- Insert the bolt leaders through the attachment holes in the outside of the frame and out through the large access holes at the bottom.
- Slide the bolt leader through a block and screw it onto a carriage bolt. Pull the assembly through the frame and leave the ends of the bolt leaders sticking out.
-
Position Hitch:
- Raise the hitch above the tailpipes, ensuring the hitch tubing pushes the muffler hangers upward.
- Guide the bolt leader ends through the slots in the hitch frame brackets as you raise the hitch into position.
-
Install Fasteners:
- Pull the ends of the carriage bolts through the vehicle frame and hitch brackets.
- Loosely install conical toothed washers and hex nuts. Ensure the bolts engage with the square hole in the blocks.
-
Adjust Hitch (for V-6 Models):
- Pull the hitch rearward as far as possible to allow for better muffler clearance.
-
Tighten Fasteners:
- Torque all 7/16”-14 x 1-1/2” carriage bolts to 50 Lb.-Ft. (68 N*M).
-
Reattach Exhaust System:
- Reinsert the metal muffler tangs into the rubber hangers on both sides.
- Tighten the strap bolts holding the exhaust together in front of the mufflers.
- To allow additional clearance between the hitch brackets and tailpipes, twist the mufflers and tailpipes before tightening.

Safety Notes:
