Installation Instructions for Trailer Hitch

Tools Required:
- Ratchet
- Torque Wrench
- Safety Glasses
- Sockets: 10 mm, 19 mm
- 6" Socket Extension
- Panel Removal Tool
- Plastic Trim Tools
- Phillips Screwdriver
- Utility Knife
- 3/16” or 5 mm Hex Bits
- Exhaust Removal Pliers
- Tape
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Remove Bottom Appearance Panel and Mud Flaps:
- Use a Phillips screwdriver, panel removal tool, and a 10 mm socket to remove (4) rivets and (2) screws from the bottom appearance panel on the driver side.
- Remove mud flaps on both sides if present.
- Retain the bottom panel and mud flaps for reinstallation.
2. Remove Bumper Fascia:
- Remove (2) plastic rivets from the bottom center fascia using a panel removal tool. For models with a hands-free liftgate, remove (6) plastic rivets instead.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove (3) screws from the wheel well liner on each side.
- Open the trunk and use 3/16” or 5 mm hex bits to remove (2) flat head screws on each side.
- Using plastic trim tools, gently remove the bumper fascia, starting from the outer edges near the wheel wells.
- Disconnect any wiring from the fascia on both sides if present.
3. Lower Exhaust:
- Use exhaust removal pliers to temporarily lower the exhaust pipe.
- Support the muffler with a bungee cord or similar device to prevent damage.
4. Install Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position and carefully slide it over the passenger-side exhaust pipe first.
- Loosely install M12 bolts and conical washers into the hitch, ensuring the teeth of the washers face the hitch.
5. Torque Fasteners:
- Tighten all M12 fasteners with a torque wrench to 76 lb-ft (103 N·m).
6. Trim Bumper Fascia and Bottom Appearance Panel:
- Locate the center of the bottom bumper fascia and trim a 3.5” tall by 5.5” wide area as shown in Figure 2.
- Trim the bottom appearance panel as shown in Figure 3.
7. Reinstall Components:
- Reinstall all fasteners, wiring, fascia, exhaust, bottom appearance panel, and mud flaps removed in Steps 1-3.
Hardware List:
- 6 × Conical Washers (1/2”)
- 6 × M12 Bolts (1.25 × 35 mm, CL8.8)
Safety Notes:
- Always wear safety glasses during installation.
- Proper torque is essential to secure the hitch to the vehicle.
- Check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and the hitch ball are securely tightened.
- If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or body panels to prevent water and exhaust fumes from entering.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball before use.
- Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
