Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Locate the Vehicle’s Electric Junction Box

1. Find the black Electric Junction Box inside the vehicle:
   • Under the dashboard, left of the steering column, just above the carpet.
2. Remove the cover of the Electric Junction Box.
3. Locate the connection point for the electric trailer brakes in the top row, second slot from the left.

Step 2: Plug the Brake Control Adapter into the Vehicle Connector

1. Plug the brake control adapter into the mating connection point inside the Electric Junction Box.
2. Use a circuit tester to verify that battery (+) power is supplied to the adapter.

NOTE:

• Not all vehicles are pre-wired with complete power connections to the battery and/or wiring for electric trailer brakes.
• If power is already supplied, skip to Step 4.

Step 3: Add Power Supply (If Required)

For vehicles with no power supply:

1. Use an Electric Brake Control Wiring Kit and route all wires as described in the wiring kit instructions or as follows:

   A. Vehicle Brake Control Feed Wire (Blue):

   • Open the vehicle’s hood and locate the black Electrical Center Box on the driver’s side.
   • Remove the cover to access the blue brake control feed wire.
   • This step may require temporarily removing the vehicle’s support brace.

   B. Vehicle Battery (+) Power Supply Wire (Red):

   • Locate the red battery (+) power supply wire in the Electrical Center Box.
   • Connect the wiring and ensure an in-line fuse or circuit breaker is installed.
   • Reinstall the Electrical Center Box cover, lid, and support brace.

Step 4: Connect the Brake Controller

1. Plug the brake control adapter into the vehicle’s brake control harness connector.
2. Follow the brake control manufacturer’s instructions for wiring and mounting the unit.

Warnings:

1. Complete the installation following the brake control manufacturer’s instructions.
2. Mount the brake controller securely as directed.
3. Perform all test procedures outlined in the brake controller manual.
4. Do NOT overload the circuit:
   • Maximum capacity: 4 axles / 8 brakes (24 amps)
5. Always follow the vehicle manufacturer’s towing and load limits.

Wiring Overview:

• Blue Wire: Brake control feed wire (output to trailer brakes)
• Red Wire: Battery (+) power supply
• Ground: Connects brake controller to vehicle ground
• Stop Lamp Switch (Input): Vehicle braking signal to the brake controller

Final Notes:

• Periodically inspect the connections for tightness and wear.
• Ensure all wires are properly routed away from sharp edges, heat sources, and pinch points.
• Consult the vehicle owner’s manual for additional information regarding towing and electrical connections.

• Drill with 1/8” bit

Wiring Connections:

Step-by-Step Installation:

Step 1: Selecting a Mounting Location

1. Choose a location that is:

   • Secure and solid for mounting.
   • Easily accessible to the driver.
   • Clear behind the surface to avoid damaging wiring or components when drilling.

2. Use the bracket as a template to mark hole locations.

Step 2: Mounting the Brake Control

1. Drill holes at the marked locations using a 1/8” drill bit.
2. Secure the bracket using (2) self-tapping screws.
3. Mount the brake control unit to the bracket using the remaining screws.

Step 3: Wiring the Brake Control

1. Follow the wiring instructions:

   • Black Wire: Connect to a constant 12V power source using a 30A auto-reset circuit breaker.
   • White Wire: Connect to a solid vehicle ground.
   • Red Wire: Connect to the stoplight switch wire.
   • Blue Wire: Connect to the trailer brake output wire.

2. Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated.

Adjusting Power to the Trailer Brakes:

1. Connect the trailer to the tow vehicle.

2. With the engine running, hold the Manual Slide Control to the left and set the Output/Gain Control to approximately 5.0.

3. Drive at 25 mph on a dry, level surface.

4. Fully apply the Manual Slide Control:

   • If the brakes lock up: Reduce the Output/Gain.
   • If braking is insufficient: Increase the Output/Gain.

5. Repeat until braking force is just below wheel lock-up.

Boost Settings:

The Boost feature increases brake sensitivity with three levels:

• b.1: Starts braking at 14% power.
• b.2: Starts braking at 28% power.
• b.3: Provides the most aggressive braking for heavy trailers.

To Adjust Boost Settings:

1. Press the Boost Button to display the current setting.
2. Use the + or - buttons to adjust.

Manual Control:

• Location: Right side of the brake control.
• The Manual Slide Control applies trailer brakes without activating vehicle brakes.
• Slide left to apply braking force manually.
• The power level can be monitored on the LED display.

Brake Adjustment Guide:

1. Raise and secure the trailer with jack stands.
2. Remove the brake backing plate cover.
3. Adjust the brake shoes outward until the wheels are hard to turn.
4. Back off slightly until the wheels spin freely with a slight drag.

Safety Notes:

1. Always test trailer brakes at low speeds.
2. Do not exceed the vehicle's Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR).
3. Regularly inspect and adjust trailer brakes every 3,000 miles.
