Installation Instructions for Electric Trailer Brake Control Wiring Adapter

Wiring Access Location:
- Under dash, left of the steering column, near the brake pedal

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Locate the vehicle brake control harness connector
- Find the electric brake control harness under the dash, to the left of the steering column.
- The harness will be taped to another harness near the brake pedal and will have a 4-pin connector that mates with the adapter.
Step 2: Connect the brake control adapter
- Plug the brake control adapter into the vehicle’s electric brake control harness connector.
- Follow the brake control manufacturer’s installation instructions.
Step 3: Complete installation and mount the brake control unit
- Complete the installation as directed in the brake control manufacturer’s instructions.
- Mount the brake control unit and perform the test procedures to ensure functionality.
Safety Notes:
- Vehicles not equipped with an OEM trailer tow package may require fuses and relays to complete output and battery feed circuits (sold separately).
- Consult the vehicle owner’s manual for fuse and relay locations.
- Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer’s rating or the following limits:
- Maximum 3 axles: 6 brakes (18 amps).
- Overloading circuits can cause fires.
- Always wear safety glasses and follow all safety precautions during installation.

- Screwdriver or 1/4" Nut Driver
- Wire Stripper/Cutter
- Wire Crimping Tool

Mounting Instructions:

Choose Mounting Location:
- Select a solid surface that is easy for the driver to access.
- Ensure the area behind the mounting location is clear.

Install the Bracket:
- Use the bracket as a template to mark the holes.
- Drill two (2) 1/8" holes at the marked locations.
- Secure the bracket with self-tapping screws.

Attach the Brake Control:
- Slide the Brake Control Unit into the bracket.
- Secure it with the remaining screws.
Wiring Instructions:
- Black Wire: Connect to the 12V positive terminal of the battery using a 30A auto-reset circuit breaker.
- White Wire: Connect to a clean, bare metal ground on the vehicle chassis.
- Red Wire: Connect to the cold side of the stoplight switch (voltage only when the brake pedal is pressed).
- Blue Wire: Connect to the trailer brake wire at the 7-way connector.
