Step-by-Step Instructions:

Lower Carbon Canister:
- Lower the carbon canister and bracket from the passenger-side frame rail.
-
Prepare Frame Rails:
- Remove the four (4) plastic caps from the bottom of the frame rails.
- Fishwire the carriage bolts and blocks through the access holes in the bottom of the frame as shown in Figure 1.
Note:
- On the driver side, the side bracket attaches to the outboard side of the tie-down bracket.
- On the passenger side, the side bracket attaches to the inboard side of the tie-down bracket.

Install Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position.
- Loosely install hex nuts and conical toothed washers onto the forward-most fasteners.
- Install hex bolts and blocks as shown in Figure 1.
Note:
- On the passenger side, place an additional block between the hitch and the tie-down bracket (see Figure 2).

Reinstall Components:
- Reinstall the large plastic caps into the access holes removed in Step 2.
- Reattach the carbon canister and bracket.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Tighten all 1/2"-13 GR5 fasteners to 75 lb-ft (102 N*m) with a torque wrench.
- Tighten all 7/16"-14 GR5 fasteners to 50 lb-ft (68 N*m).

Safety Notes:
- Frequently check the hitch to ensure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened.
- If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent water and exhaust fumes from entering.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
- Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection.
- Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.

- Inside the trunk/hatch area of the vehicle:
- For some vehicles, the trailer plug is behind the interior access panel on the driver’s side near the taillamp assembly.
- On others (e.g., Subaru Forester), it is located in the spare tire area on the passenger’s side under the threshold or carpet panel.
Tools Required:
- Trim panel remover.
- Test probe.
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Open the vehicle’s trunk/hatch.
- Locate the vehicle’s trailer plug harness as described above.

Remove the tape on the vehicle’s plug and insert the T-Connector into the vehicle’s trailer plug harness.

Secure the remaining T-Connector harness using the cable ties provided.
- Avoid areas that could pinch, cut, or melt the wire.

On some models, route and store the T-Connector in either the spare tire well or the storage compartment next to the vehicle’s access panel.

Test the installation with a test light or trailer.
