Installation Instructions for Jeep Compass (Including Rallye Package) and Jeep Patriot (Including Optional Tow Hook)

Wiring Access Location:

Tools Required:

• Wrenches: 22mm, 16mm (for optional tow hook)
• Drill Bits: 5/8" (only for reinstalling the tow hook on Patriot with optional tow hook)
• Cutting Tool: For fascia trimming on Compass Rallye and 2011+ Patriot and Compass models

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Lower Exhaust (Optional):

   • If needed, lower the exhaust by removing the rubber hanger from the hanger bracket.
   • Use lubricant or soapy water to ease removal.

2. Remove Optional Tow Hook (Patriot Only):

   • If the vehicle has an optional tow hook on the driver side, remove it.
   • To reinstall the tow hook:
     • Press/drive out existing knurled neck bolts.
     • Drill out the holes using a 5/8" drill bit.
     • Use the supplied M14 bolts to reinstall.

3. Trim Fascia:

   • For 2011+ Jeep Patriot and Compass models, fascia trimming is required:
     • Obtain vehicle owner approval before cutting.
     • Trim a 2" vertical section from the bottom lip of the fascia.
     • On Compass Rallye models, trim a 2-1/4" wide by 2" high section to allow clearance for the hitch receiver.

4. Install Hitch:

   • Place M14 hex bolts through the frame bushings from the outboard side.
   • Raise the hitch into position and push the M14 bolts through the hitch frame brackets.
   • Attach remaining hardware (washers, lock washers, and hex nuts) as shown in the instructions.

5. Reinstall Components:

   • Raise the exhaust back into position and secure with rubber hangers.

Torque Specifications:

• Tighten all M14 fasteners to 100 ft-lb (136 N*m).

Hardware List:

• (4) M14 x 120 x 2 Hex Bolts
• (2) 5/8" Conical Washers
• (2) 5/8" Lock Washers
• (4) M14 x 2.0 Hex Nuts

Safety Notes:

• Frequently check the hitch to ensure all fasteners and the ball are securely tightened.
• If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or body panels to prevent water or exhaust fumes from entering.
• Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
• Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection.
• Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.

Installation Instructions for T-Connector Adapter for Dodge (Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Caliber, Durango) and Jeep Patriot

Tools Required:

• Trim Panel Remover
• Drill (3/32” Drill Bit)
• Phillips Head Screwdriver
• Test Probe
• Wire Crimpers
• Wire Cutters
• Torx-30

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Remove the Taillight Assemblies:

   • Dodge Grand Caravan / Chrysler Town & Country / Dodge Durango:
     • Open the rear tailgate and remove the T-30 Torx screws securing the taillight housings.
     • Carefully pry the taillights away from the vehicle, being cautious not to break the alignment tabs.
   • Jeep Patriot / Dodge Caliber:
     • Open the tailgate and remove the clips holding the taillight assemblies.
     • Carefully pry the housings away from the vehicle, avoiding damage to alignment tabs.

2. Disconnect the Vehicle Wiring Harness:

   • Disconnect the vehicle wiring harness from both taillight sockets.
   • Plug the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the driver’s side taillight socket and the vehicle wiring harness.
   • Repeat this step for the T-Connector end with the green wire on the passenger side.

3. Route the T-Connector Wiring:

   • Route the T-Connector end with the green wire and the 4-flat connector down through the opening between the vehicle bumper and body.
   • Route the green wire to the passenger’s side and secure the 4-flat connector underneath the bumper.

4. Ground the White Wire:

   • Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector (do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed).
   • Clean the grounding area, drill a 3/32” hole, and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.

   Caution:

   • Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury.

5. Connect the Power Wire:

   • Disconnect the vehicle’s negative (-) battery cable.
   • Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder.
   • Attach the ring terminal to the vehicle’s positive (+) battery cable.
   • Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12-gauge wire using the provided yellow butt connector.

6. Route the Black Power Wire:

   • Starting at the front of the vehicle, route the black 12-gauge wire along the frame rail to the rear driver’s side.
   • Locate an opening between the vehicle rear bumper and body, and route the wire into the rear driver’s side taillight area.
   • Connect the black wire to the red wire from the T-Connector black box using the provided yellow butt connector.

7. Reconnect the Battery and Install Fuse:

   • Reconnect the vehicle’s negative (-) battery cable.
   • Install the 10-amp fuse into the fuse holder.

   Warning:

   • All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly.

8. Mount the Black Box:

   • Mount the T-Connector black box using the provided double-sided tape.
   • Ensure the epoxy side of the module is facing downward to prevent water accumulation.

9. Reinstall the Taillight Assemblies:

   • Reinstall the taillight housing assemblies, ensuring the vehicle wiring harness is positioned correctly.
   • Secure the remaining T-Connector harness under the bumper with the provided cable ties.

10. Test the Installation:

    • Test and verify the T-Connector functionality using a test light or trailer.

    Specifications:

    • Max. stop/turn light: 1 per side (2.1 amps)
    • Max. tail lights: (4.2 amps)

Safety Notes:

• Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer’s rating or the unit specifications.
• Always wear safety glasses and follow all safety precautions during installation.

Manufacturer Notes:

• Mount the 4-flat connector in a suitable location under the vehicle. A mounting bracket is not included.
• Refer to the vehicle owner’s manual for additional details.
