Installation Instructions for 2013-Current Chevrolet Trax and Buick Encore

- Exhaust Removal Pliers

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Insert Pull Wires:
- Insert pull wires into the frame rails and use them to feed the carriage bolts and spacers into the frame rails through the access holes.
- Leave the pull wires attached.

Lower Exhaust System:
- Use exhaust removal pliers to remove the exhaust system at two rubber isolators.
- Spray lubricant or soapy water on the metal hanger rod and rubber isolators to ease removal.
- Support the muffler to avoid damage.

Position Hitch:
- Add one spacer to the flange on the driver's side bracket if needed.
- Raise the hitch into position and slide it over the top of the exhaust pipe on the passenger side.
- Feed the pull wires through the slots in the brackets.

Secure Hitch:
- Remove the pull wires and loosely install conical washers and hex nuts to secure the hitch.
- For vehicles with a weldnut on the driver's side frame, use the provided M12 bolt and conical washer.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Tighten all 7/16”-14 GR5 fasteners to 50 ft-lbs (68 N*m).
- Tighten all M12 x 1.75 CL8.8 fasteners to 68 ft-lbs (92 N*m).

Reinstall Exhaust:
- Reinstall the exhaust system onto the rubber isolators.

Installation Instructions for T-Connector Adapter for Chevrolet Trax

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Open the Rear Tailgate:
- Remove the threshold, trunk floor panels, and trays. Set aside all removed items carefully.
-
Remove Interior Trim Panels:
- Partially remove the rear interior trim panels on both the driver and passenger sides.
- Remove the trim panel fasteners carefully to avoid damaging the clips.
-
Connect the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Separate the vehicle’s wiring connectors on the driver’s side, ensuring not to break the locking tabs.
- Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock it into place.
- Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and secure.

Route the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Route the T-Connector containing the green wire below the threshold cover to the passenger-side taillight housing.
- Repeat Step 3 to connect the green wire on the passenger side.

Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point on the driver’s side near the connectors.
- Drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
Caution:
- Verify the surface behind before drilling to avoid damage or injury.

Mount the Black Box:
- Locate a flat, out-of-the-way surface and mount the T-Connector’s black box to prevent damage or rattling.

Connect the Power Wire:
- Connect the black 12-gauge wire from the T-Connector black box to the black wire provided using the supplied yellow butt connector.
- Route the black wire through a grommet and along the exterior frame or existing wiring to the engine compartment.
Warning:
- Avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tanks, or areas that may damage the wire.

Connect to the Vehicle Battery:
- Disconnect the vehicle’s negative (-) battery cable.
- Attach the yellow fuse holder to the positive (+) battery cable using the provided ring terminal.
- Connect the black wire to the fuse holder using the yellow butt connector.
- Insert the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.

Reconnect the Battery:
- Reconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
- Test the installation with a test light or trailer to verify proper functionality.

Secure the Wiring:
- Use the provided cable ties to secure the T-Connector harness, avoiding areas that could pinch, cut, or melt the wire.

Reassemble the Vehicle:
- Replace the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, and floor covering removed during installation, ensuring no wires are pinched or damaged.

Store the 4-Flat Connector:
- Store the 4-flat connector in the rear cargo area when not in use.
