Installation Instructions for Hyundai Elantra GT
Note: Does not fit Korean-manufactured vehicles (See door jamb build sticker or VIN code, second letter "M").

Specifications:

• Max Gross Trailer Weight: 2,000 lb. (908 kg)
• Max Tongue Weight: 200 lb. (91 kg)
• Note: Do not exceed the towing vehicle manufacturer’s rating.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Install Carriage Bolt and Spacer:

   • Place the carriage bolt and spacer onto the tow hook as shown in Figure 1.

2. Position Hitch:

   • Raise the hitch into position behind the end panel.
   • Fasten the hitch to the tow hook with the conical washer and hex nut. Hand-tighten.

3. Attach Hardware:

   • Using the provided pull wire, install the carriage bolt and spacer through the end panel and hitch.
   • Secure with the conical washer and hex nut. Hand-tighten.

4. Tighten All Fasteners:

   • Torque all 1/2” GR5 fasteners to 75 Lb.-Ft. (102 N*M).

• (3) Carriage Bolts: 1/2”-13 x 1.75” GR5
• (3) Conical Washers: 1/2”
• (3) Hex Nuts: 1/2”-13
• (2) Spacers
• (1) Pull Wire: 1/2”

Safety Notes:

• Regularly inspect all fasteners and the hitch ball to ensure they are securely tightened.
• If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or body panels to prevent water and exhaust fumes from entering.
• Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
• Always observe safety precautions and wear eye protection when working under the vehicle.
• Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.

Installation Instructions for T-Connector Adapter for Hyundai Elantra

Part Numbers:

Tools Required:

• Trim Panel Remover
• Drill (3/32” Drill Bit)
• 1/4” Socket
• Wire Crimpers
• Wire Cutters
• Phillips Head Screwdriver
• Test Probe

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Open the Trunk:

   • Remove the rear threshold plate temporarily.
   • Partially remove the felt trunk liner on both sides to expose the vehicle’s taillight wiring harness.

2. Access the Taillight Wiring Harness:

   • Locate the vehicle’s taillight wiring harness plugged directly into the taillight socket on both driver and passenger sides.
   • Disconnect the wiring harness connectors, being careful not to damage the locking tabs.

3. Install the Driver-Side T-Connector:

   • Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the driver-side wiring connectors and lock it in place.
   • Ensure connectors are fully inserted, with locking tabs secured.

4. Route and Connect the Passenger-Side T-Connector:

   • Route the T-Connector end with the green wire under the felt trunk liner to the passenger-side taillight wiring harness.
   • Repeat Step 3 for the passenger side.

5. Ground the White Wire:

   • Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector.
   • Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area.
   • Drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.

   Caution:

   • Verify what is behind the surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury. Do not drill into exposed surfaces.

6. Prepare the Power Connection:

   • Disconnect the vehicle’s negative (-) battery cable.
   • Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder.
   • Attach the ring terminal to the vehicle’s positive (+) battery cable and connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12-gauge wire using the provided yellow butt connector.

   Warning:

   • Read and follow all warnings on the tow vehicle’s battery.

7. Route the Power Wire:

   • Route the black wire out of the engine compartment along the exterior frame or through the interior, following existing wiring to the rear of the vehicle.

   Warning:

   • Avoid hot pipes, heat shields, and fuel tanks to prevent damage to the wire.

8. Connect the Black Wire to the T-Connector:

   • Attach the black 12-gauge wire to the red wire from the T-Connector black box using the supplied yellow butt connector.

9. Reconnect the Battery:

   • Reconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
   • Install the 10-amp fuse into the fuse holder.

   Warning:

   • Ensure all connections are complete before testing the system. Test the installation with a test light or trailer.

10. Mount the Black Box and Secure Wiring:

    • Mount the T-Connector black box on the driver’s side using the provided double-sided tape.
    • Secure the T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided, avoiding areas that could pinch or damage the wires.

11. Reassemble the Vehicle:

    • Replace the felt trunk liner, threshold plate, and other items removed during installation, ensuring no wires are pinched or cut.

12. Store the 4-Flat Connector:

    • Store the 4-flat connector in the spare tire compartment when not in use.

Specifications:

• Max. stop/turn light: 1 per side (2.1 amps)
• Max. tail lights: 5.6 amps

• Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed the towing manufacturer’s ratings or specified circuit ratings.
