Installation Instructions for T-One® T-Connector for Hyundai Tucson
Part Numbers:
- 118812
Tools Required:
- Trim Panel Remover
- 10mm Socket & Ratchet or Wrench
- Drill (3/32” Drill Bit)
- Fish Tape
- Test Probe
- Utility Knife
Step-by-Step Instructions:
-
Remove the Taillight Assemblies:
- Open the tailgate and carefully pull the taillights away from the vehicle to expose the wiring harness connectors behind each taillight.
- Disconnect the connectors, ensuring not to break the locking tabs. Clean all connector surfaces to remove dirt.
-
Remove Interior Panels:
- Inside the rear cargo area, temporarily remove all floor coverings, cargo trays, and the plastic threshold cover.
- Warning: Do not remove the vehicle's side trim panels, as this may damage the clips holding the panels in place.
-
Locate the Grommet and Route Wires:
- Locate the grommet under the vehicle on the driver’s side.
- Remove the grommet and use fish tape to route the T-Connector ends and the power wire through the grommet hole from inside the vehicle. Seat the grommet securely.
Note: If an existing vehicle wire passes through the grommet, carefully slit the provided T-Connector’s grommet to allow both wires to pass through. Add silicone rubber (not provided) to seal the grommet.
-
Connect the Driver-Side T-Connector:
- Route the T-Connector end with the yellow and brown wires up to the driver-side taillight pocket.
- Insert the yellow wire connector between the taillight socket and the vehicle wiring harness. Ensure all connections are fully seated with locking tabs secure.
-
Route and Connect the Passenger-Side T-Connector:
- Route the T-Connector end with the green and red wires across the bumper bracket and into the passenger-side taillight pocket.
- Secure the harness to the bumper using cable ties, avoiding hot pipes, heat shields, or sharp edges.
- Repeat Step 4 for the passenger-side taillight.
-
Connect the Power Wire:
- Remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder. Attach the provided ring terminal to the Positive (+) battery cable and secure it.
- Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12-gauge wire using the provided yellow butt connector.
- Route the black power wire along the vehicle’s frame to the rear, avoiding hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tanks, or other hazards.
- Under the vehicle, connect the black power wire to the red 12-gauge power wire exiting the grommet using the provided butt connector. Apply heat to the splice until the tubing recovers and adhesive flows.
-
Ground the White Wire:
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud.
- Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area, drill a 3/32” hole, and secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
- Caution: Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to prevent damage or injury.
-
Test the Installation:
- Ensure all connections are complete. Test the installation with a test light or trailer to verify functionality.
-
Mount the Black Box:
- Mount the T-One® T-Connector black box on the driver’s side using the provided double-sided tape.
- Secure the remaining harness with cable ties to prevent damage or rattling.
-
Reassemble the Vehicle:
- Reinstall the plastic trim panels, threshold cover, storage covers, and floor coverings.
- Ensure no wires are pinched or damaged.
-
Store the 4-Flat Connector:
- Store the 4-flat connector in the spare tire compartment when not in use.
Safety Notes:
- Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed stated product ratings or vehicle manufacturer specifications.
- Always wear safety glasses and follow all safety precautions during installation.
