Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Lower Exhaust:

   • Disconnect three (3) rubber exhaust hangers from the muffler to lower the exhaust system.

2. Remove Tow Hook:

   • Detach the tow hook from the driver-side vehicle frame. Return the tow hook and fasteners to the vehicle owner.

3. Install Hitch:

   • Raise the hitch into position and align it with the existing weld nuts on the frame. Install all fasteners as shown in the instructions.

4. Raise Exhaust:

   • Reconnect the rubber exhaust hangers to return the exhaust system to its original position. Reattach the muffler to the exhaust pipe if removed earlier.

5. Torque All Fasteners:

   • Tighten all M10 x 1.25 CL8.8 fasteners to 42 lb-ft (57 Nm) and all 1/2"-13 GR5 fasteners to 75 lb-ft (102 Nm) using a torque wrench.

Installation Instructions for Tow Harness for Mitsubishi Outlander

• Trim Panel Remover
• 12mm Socket & Ratchet
• Drill (3/32” Drill Bit)
• 1/4” Socket
• Wire Crimpers
• Wire Cutters
• Philips Head Screwdriver
• Test Probe

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Disconnect the Battery:

   • Disconnect and isolate the vehicle’s Negative (-) battery terminal.

2. Remove Interior Panels:

   • Open the vehicle’s rear tailgate.
   • On the driver’s side, remove access panels, threshold, trunk floor panels, and trays. Set all items aside carefully to avoid damage.

3. Locate Factory Tow Harness Connector:

   • On the driver’s side, locate the factory tow harness connector taped to the vehicle body harness.

4. Connect the Tow Harness:

   • Insert the tow harness into the factory connector and lock it in place.
   • Ensure all connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs secured.

5. Mount the Black Box:

   • Locate a flat surface in an out-of-the-way place to mount the tow harness black box-module. This prevents damage or rattling.

6. Ground the White Wire:

   • Locate a suitable grounding point on the driver’s side near the connectors.
   • Drill a 3/32” hole and secure the white wire with the provided eyelet and screw.
   • Caution: Verify what is behind the surface before drilling to avoid damage or injury. Do not drill into exposed surfaces.

7. Reinstall Interior Panels:

   • Reinstall the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and other items removed during installation.
   • Ensure wires are not pinched or cut.

8. Connect to Fuse Block:

   • Locate the black plug under the fuse block behind the driver’s side headlight.
   • Remove the black plug and connect the grey connector into the factory harness.
   • Connect the ring terminal to the positive side of the battery terminal.

9. Store the 4-Flat Connector:

   • Store the 4-flat connector in the rear cargo area when not in use.

10. Test the Installation:

    • Ensure all connections are complete for proper tow harness functionality.
    • Reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the ignition key.
    • Test the installation with a test light or trailer.
