Installation Instructions for Kia Sorento (2016-Current)

Installation Time:

• Estimated: 40 minutes (for professional installers)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Lower and Remove Spare Tire:

   • Access the tire release under the storage compartment at the back of the vehicle.

2. Remove Driver-Side Rear Plastic Cover:

   • Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove fasteners, five (5) plastic push pins, and two (2) nuts.

3. Lower Exhaust:

   • Remove rear and side hangers, supporting the exhaust to prevent damage.
   • Apply lubricant or soapy water to the metal hanger rods and rubber isolators to ease removal.
   • Remove rubber plugs from the bottom of the frame rails on both sides.

4. Prepare Weldnuts:

   • Run M10 bolts into the existing weldnuts in the frame rails to remove debris. Then, remove the bolts.

5. Raise Hitch:

   • Raise the hitch into position.
   • Insert hardware items 1 & 2 on the driver side and items 4 & 5 on the passenger side.
   • Insert bolts through the bracket and frame for support. If the bumper locator pin interferes, trim the pin using an angle grinder.

6. Install Hardware:

   • Insert M10 bolts (items 8 & 7) through the bracket and into the frame.
   • Loosely install the conical washers and hex nuts onto the corresponding bolts.

7. Tighten Fasteners:

   • Tighten M10 CL10.9 fasteners to 40 lb-ft (54 N*m).
   • Tighten 1/2" GR5 fasteners to 75 lb-ft (102 N*m).
   • Tighten M12 GR8.8 fasteners to 68 lb-ft (92 N*m).

8. Reinstall Components:

   • Raise the exhaust back into position and reattach hangers.
   • Reinstall the driver-side rear plastic cover removed in Step 2.
   • Reinstall the spare tire and ensure it is properly seated.

Torque Specifications:

• M10 bolts: 40 lb-ft (54 N*m)
• 1/2" GR5 bolts: 75 lb-ft (102 N*m)
• M12 GR8.8 bolts: 68 lb-ft (92 N*m)

Safety Notes:

• Frequently check the hitch to ensure all fasteners and the ball are securely tightened.
• If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent water or exhaust fumes from entering.
• Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
• Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection.
• Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.

Installation Instructions for T-One® T-Connector for Kia Telluride, Kia Carnival, Kia Sorento, Hyundai Palisade, Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Tucson, and Hyundai Santa Cruz

• Test Light

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Locate the Vehicle’s Trailer Wiring Harness:

   • Underneath the vehicle, locate the trailer wiring harness connector on the driver’s side, behind the rear bumper fascia.
   • If a protective cap is present, remove it and store it safely.

2. Clean and Prepare the Connector:

   • Ensure the vehicle’s trailer wiring harness connector and the T-One® T-Connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt or debris.
   • Clean the surfaces as necessary to ensure a proper connection.

3. Connect the T-One® T-Connector:

   • Insert the 12-pin T-One® T-Connector into the vehicle’s trailer wiring harness.
   • Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with the locking tabs securely engaged.

4. Mount the Black Box:

   • Determine a suitable mounting location behind the rear bumper fascia on the driver’s side.
   • Clean the mounting surface using a 50-50 mixture of rubbing alcohol and water to ensure proper adhesion.
   • Mount the black box using the provided double-sided tape, ensuring the epoxy side faces downward to prevent water accumulation.

   Caution: Ensure the black box is in a protected area to avoid damage from road debris or exposure to harsh elements.

5. Route the 4-Flat Connector:

   • Route the 4-flat connector rearward along the bumper fascia to the center of the vehicle.
   • Secure the harness with the provided cable ties, avoiding hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tanks, or any points that may pinch, cut, or damage the wire.

6. Mount the 4-Flat Connector:

   • Mount the 4-flat connector in an accessible location using a bracket or electrical box (not included).

7. Reinstall Plastic Cover:

   • If removed, reinstall the plastic cover securely, ensuring not to break any securing pins.

8. Test the Installation:

   • Test the T-One® T-Connector using a test light or trailer to ensure proper functionality.
   • Reset the vehicle’s electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition if necessary.

Safety Notes:

• Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed the stated product ratings.
• Always wear safety glasses and follow safety precautions during installation.
• Ensure all connections are complete for the T-One® T-Connector to function properly.
