Installation Instructions for Audi Q3 (2019-Current) and VW Tiguan (2019-Current)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove Taillights:
- Open the liftgate and remove the taillight cover trim.
- Using a pry tool, carefully remove the cover.
- Remove two screws securing the taillight with a T25 Torx bit.
- Slide the taillight rearward to remove, disconnect the electrical connector, and set it aside. Repeat for the other side.

Remove Cargo Area Panels:
- Lift and remove the cargo floor panel.
- Remove the threshold panel by lifting it straight up and using a pry tool for assistance.

Remove Rear Fascia Fasteners:
- Remove the rubber grommets in the cargo area to access hidden nuts. Use a 10mm deep well socket to remove the nuts.
- In the rear wheel wells, locate and remove screws securing the bottom corner of the wheel well liner using a T25 Torx bit. Fold the liner back toward the tire and remove any additional screws. Repeat for the other side.
- Remove fasteners behind the wheel well trim by pressing down on clips with a pry tool. Remove hidden screws with a T25 Torx bit. Protect trim with painter’s tape to prevent scratches during removal.

Remove Lower Fascia Screws:
- Underneath the vehicle, remove six screws securing the bottom of the rear fascia.

Detach the Fascia:
- Starting at the wheel well area, pull outward on the top front of the rear fascia to expose the clips.
- Use a plastic pry tool to disconnect clips and continue pulling outward to remove the fascia.
- Slide the fascia rearward, unplug electrical connectors, and set it aside.

Remove Impact Beam:
- Using a 13mm socket, remove bolts securing the impact beam to the vehicle frame. Return the impact beam and bolts to the vehicle owner.

Install Hitch:
- Insert the hitch side brackets into the frame rails and align the slots with the frame holes.
- Use supplied pull wires to feed bolts and spacers through the hitch and vehicle frame.
- Install conical washers (teeth side toward the vehicle frame) and secure with bolts.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Tighten all hitch fasteners to 50 lb-ft (68 N·m) using a torque wrench.

Reinstall Components:
- Reinstall the rear fascia, taillights, and any previously removed components in reverse order. Ensure all electrical connectors are reconnected.

Safety Notes:

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Tow Vehicle Inputs - Determination:
- Disconnect and isolate the vehicle's negative battery terminal.
- Warning: Read and follow all warnings and instructions on the tow vehicle's battery.
- Splice the tow harness input wires to the vehicle as determined.
- Caution: Use appropriate gauge wire splices. Blue taps are for 16-18 gauge wires only.
Harness Installation:
- Determine the mounting location of the module and secure it using the double-sided tape provided.
- Warning: Mount the module with the epoxy side pointed towards the ground to prevent water buildup.
- Locate a suitable grounding point near the module, such as an existing ground stud, or drill a 3/32” hole to secure the white wire using the provided eyelet and screw.
- Caution: Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage or personal injury.
- Route the power wire to the vehicle’s positive battery terminal. Use the provided fuse holder, butt connector, and ring terminal to connect to the battery.
- Do not insert the 15 amp fuse yet.
- Caution: Ensure the module is connected to a constant power source and avoid routing the wire near hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tanks, or pinch points.
Completion:
- Secure the harness with cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling.
- Reconnect the vehicle's negative battery cable.
- Insert the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder and close the cap.
- Test the installation using a test light or trailer. Check each function independently and in combination.
