Installation Instructions for Mercedes GLE350 (2021-Current)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Remove Fascia:
- Using a 10mm socket, remove eight bolts from the bottom of the fascia.
- Use a flat head screwdriver to remove three rivets from the outside of the wheel well liner and one rivet from the inside, per side. Remove one bolt inside the wheel well liner, per side, using a 10mm socket.
- Open the tailgate. Use a T30 Torx bit to remove one screw from the rear trim panel at the center. Remove the plastic trim.
- Remove plastic covers from the driver and passenger side panels. Use a plastic trim tool to remove the bolt cover from the cargo tie hook. Remove one bolt from each side using a 12mm socket.
- Remove the taillights by first removing the cover from the passenger side panel. Use an 8mm socket with an extension to remove three hex nuts holding the taillight. Disconnect the wiring harness and remove the taillights.

Remove Bumper Beam:
- Use an 18mm socket to remove four M12 flange nuts from the bolts securing the bumper beam to the end panel on each side. Remove the bumper beam and return it to the vehicle owner.
- Note: The tow eye will be inoperative after bumper beam removal. Use the chain ring on the hitch as an alternative.

Install Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position, aligning holes with the studs on the end panel. Loosely install eight factory M12 flange nuts to secure the hitch.

Tighten Fasteners:
- Using a torque wrench, tighten all M12 x 1.5 fasteners to 68 lb-ft (92 N·m).

Trim Fascia:
- Use a tape measure, marker, and die grinder to measure, mark, and trim the bottom cover as shown in the instructions.

Reinstall Components:
- Reinstall the fascia, taillights, plastic covers, plastic trim, and all fasteners.

- Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.

- Inside the rear cargo area and along the vehicle's frame to the battery.
Tools Required:
- Phillips head #2 screwdriver
- Drill with 3/32” drill bit
- Wire cutters
- Wire strippers/crimpers
- Socket and ratchet set
- Volt meter or circuit tester
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare for Installation:
- Disconnect the vehicle’s negative battery terminal.
- Open the rear hatch and remove the cargo floor, spare tire cover, and any panels blocking access to the wiring.

Determine Wiring System:
- Use a volt meter or circuit tester to identify the vehicle's wiring system:
- 2-wire system: Turn and brake signals are combined on one wire.
- 3-wire system: Turn, brake, and tail signals are on separate wires.
- Multiplexed systems: Brake and tail or all functions are combined.
- Use a volt meter or circuit tester to identify the vehicle's wiring system:

Mount the Module:
- Select a flat, secure location near the rear of the vehicle for the module.
- Use the provided double-sided tape to secure the module with the epoxy side facing down to prevent water buildup.

Connect the T-Connector Harness:
- Attach the appropriate wires from the T-Connector harness to the vehicle’s wiring:
- Yellow wire: Left turn signal.
- Green wire: Right turn signal.
- Brown wire: Tail light signal.
- Red wire (if applicable): Brake signal.
- Attach the appropriate wires from the T-Connector harness to the vehicle’s wiring:

Secure the Ground:
- Locate an existing ground point or drill a 3/32” hole near the module.
- Clean the area of dirt and rustproofing. Secure the white wire with the provided eyelet and screw.

Route the Power Wire:
- Attach the black wire from the module to the provided 12-gauge power wire using the yellow butt connector.
- Route the power wire along the vehicle’s frame to the positive battery terminal, avoiding hot surfaces and moving parts.

Connect to the Battery:
- Attach the fuse holder’s ring terminal to the positive battery terminal.
- Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the power wire using the yellow butt connector.
- DO NOT insert the fuse at this time.

Secure the Wiring:
- Use the provided cable ties to secure all loose wires to prevent movement or damage.

Final Steps:
- Reconnect the vehicle’s negative battery terminal.
- Insert the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder.
- Test the installation with a test light or trailer.
- Replace all removed panels and covers, ensuring no wires are pinched or exposed.
