Installation Instructions for Tesla Model Y (2020-Present)

Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Remove Front Bottom Appearance Panel:
- Use a 10mm socket to remove (7) screws from the front of the panel and (2) screws from the intersection between the front and rear bottom panels.
- Use a flat head screwdriver to remove (4) push rivets from the bottom appearance panel and (8) from the bottom wheel well (4 per side).
- Use a T25 Torx bit to remove (2) screws from the rear bottom panel.
- Pull the rear bottom appearance panel downward and loosen it from the studs.
2. Loosen Wheel Well Liners:
- Locate the plastic trim piece inside the wheel well trim.
- Use a panel removal tool to remove (2) clips from the bottom and (4) clips from the side of the trim piece on each side.
- Remove (1) plastic washer from each liner by hand.
- Use a 10mm socket to remove (1) screw from the fascia connection point on each side.
3. Remove Trunk Panel and Taillights:
- Open the hatch and remove the interior carpet liner.
- Use plastic trim tools to loosen the weather stripping around the trunk panels.
- Detach the upper and lower trunk panels from (4) snap clips.
- Using an 8mm socket, remove (2) nuts from the taillights behind the panels on both sides.
- Use a 10mm socket to remove (1) bolt connecting the taillight to the fascia on both sides.
4. Remove Fascia:
- Use plastic trim tools to remove the fascia starting at the outer edges near the wheel wells.
- Disconnect the wiring harness on the passenger side if present.
- Set the fascia aside carefully for reinstallation.
5. Remove Sensor Bracket and Bumper Beam:
- Use a 10mm socket to remove (4) bolts from the sensor bracket.
- Use a 15mm socket to remove (6) factory flange nuts securing the bumper beam.
- Return the bumper beam to the vehicle owner.
6. Install Hitch:
- Raise the hitch into position and loosely tighten it to the studs.
- Torque all fasteners to 42 lb-ft (57 N·m).
7. Reinstall Components:
- Reinstall the wiring harness, fascia, fasteners, trunk panels, wheel well liners, and bottom appearance panel removed in Steps 1-5.
Safety Notes:
- Regularly inspect the hitch and all fasteners for secure attachment.
- If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or body panels to prevent water or exhaust entry.
- Replace any damaged hitch or ball immediately.
- Always wear safety glasses and observe safety precautions when working beneath the vehicle.
- Do not cut holes with a torch.
